Oh my gosh, look at that FACE!!!!

At one time I would have thought that fish to be hideous, now I think he's fabulous!

I've come a ways with my fish preferences, as all intermediates do!! :*)

Lovely boy!

Should we Start A Banjo Appreciation Thread. NOT enough People Have them

Wow, he is awesome!
I love him!
Now that I have a banjo catfish I have a greater apperciation for the species! I agree with psgill00. I never knew that they were so cool!

hes ( or she) is about 6 inches so he or she has 6 more inches to grow in length and a few inches in diameter lol

more pics to come when it gets bigger!

The banjo seen most often is bunocephalus coracoideus,
do you know what the giant banjo is called? bunocephalus ....?

Mottled Eel-Tail Banjo Catfish - Platystacus cotylephorus is what i got size about 12-14 inches depending on conditons. They come form the south american rivers.

more info here Giant Banjo

Hmm, lovely banjo!

I did a little research and I came up with a different Giant banjo, Apredo aspredo which gets to 38cm.

See here

there are 35 different banjo over 10 genera, think this is the same family as Aspredo sometimes they better know for this name from what i gather.

It seems that the aspredo aspredo is the "Eel tailed banjo catfish" and the Platystacus cotylephorus is the mottled eel tailed Banjo Catfish.

The two are almost identical, and would be called colour varients of the same species, but the mottled variety has spiricles on it's tail which the other does not.

Other than that, they have the same habits and needs.

I don't care which I get!
