Thoughts on this… we were at the farm store buying feed for our other animals, when I spied this… this whole bag about the price of a small bug bites food… thoughts???

I haven’t opened the package yet, but suspect I could easily crumble them… I think they are possibly crispy

I would use them as variety… I would still use my regular prepared food’s daily

I put mine though a coffee grinder (not the one I use for coffee!) as they don't crumble. As food, they work, but the fly's fame for calcium is real. It leaves calcium deposits if it hits the bottom uneaten.

Opened the bag…. Fresh ones are crunchy… but I would guess that they get mealy after exposed to the air… I just cut one in thirds… the pieces floated at 1st and then slowly sank… they got ate, but cautiously, since it was new to them… I put the pieces in my barb tank… I assumed the tin foils would eat them, but the Denison barbs beat them to the pieces

Sorry about the “mealy” pun these are black soldier fly larvae

Oops. I forgot you had larger fish. My 39 year old red eared slider turtle eats them whole.
