Electric blue ram - sex?

looks like male.
That's a young fish from a bad angle, from a species notorious for crossing up people who try to sex tham at that age.
…but you’d only notice in ‘poor quality’ individuals that aren’t very blue.
Tell me about it! The poor thing is on its own and ideally I'd want to try and pair it up

Hard to tell from the photo, but the stocky body shape makes me think that it’s a female.
If you want a breeding pair of ram cichlids, get 8-10 young fish and grow them up together. Let them choose their partners and then move the prs into their own tanks. Keep the other fish in case the pr/s don't work out and then you can put them back in the main group and let them try a new partner.
I also believe it's a young specimen. It looks female but young males look like females. So, you should give it time to see what exact sex it is.
