I've seen a white spot on the mouths of a couple of my neon tetras. Now according to the research I've been doing, this could be a fungal infection or neon tetra disease.

So for now, my plan is to treat the tank with Fritz Maracyn Oxy. And that's in the hopes that it's fungus and not neon tetra disease. If it is neon tetra disease, then the only option I can see is euthanizing them. Which I would obviously rather not do. But there's no cure. So I don't want it either spreading or they have to live out their already shortened lives separated from the others, alone and stressed.
I have a quarantine tank with some pygmy corys and amano shrimp in it. It's been about three weeks and they have shown now signs of bad health. Just the opposite. What I would like to do is get the neons with the spots out of the main tank and into a hospital tank. So I would need to shorten the quarantine period to free up that tank.
But here's another problem. My main tank with the neons is heavily planted with lots of spots for them to hide. How do I capture these neons to move them into another tank? Is there some kind of fish trap I could use? I saw something online made out of a two liter soda bottle.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I find the use of 2 nets works well. Just need to fit a larger black net in the corner, then use a small coloured net to 'herd'.

Update: It's not just white spots on mouths. I see a tail or two with a white spot on the tip of the fin.

Maybe my plan should be to keep the new pygmys in the quarantine tank since they haven't been exposed and treat the main tank since everyone in there has been exposed to whatever this is. I can extend the quarantine period until a month after these symptoms go away.

Can you post photos or video of all the effected fish?

I'm having a hard time getting good pictures of them. They don't like to hold still long enough. But I'll give it another try when I get a chance.

The first and last have the affected tails, the middle two are mouths.

White lumps on the mouth of neon tetras is something seen quite frequently on the forum. I also had this with a group of neons and only have one survivor who seems immune. It appears to be a viral disease with no cure. It isn't 'neon tetra disease', the symptoms differ. The fish behave normally until the lump gets so big it stops them eating, at which point they should be euthanised.
AFAIK it doesn't transmit to other species but I can't be certain

Do you mean columnaris? That's sometimes called false neon tetra disease.

No. They last much longer with this. Several months.

The ones with a mouth spot move their mouths like they are chewing. Otherwise, I don't see any other changes in behavior.

Just lost one. I looked and it was one of the neons with a white lump on its mouth.

I'm not going to replace these neons. Beautiful fish, but they seem to have a lot of health issues.
