I ordered eight rosy loaches online and got six of these and two of the ones I wanted (the little ones from Myanmar). I only got them yesterday but they seem peaceful and entertaining so hopefully they are suitable.
Thanks in advance.

It looks a bit like a very young chinese algae eater. I'd wait for other opinions, but if it turns out that's what they are they need to go back asap. They grow big, and when mature can develop a taste for the slime coat of other fish.

Thanks Essjay, yes they do look like the Chinese algae eaters but I don’t think they are as they don’t have the sucker mouth. These guys swim together and don’t seem to be territorial. They may be very young of course. I did write to the shop asking them if they knew, but they haven’t responded. The shop is long established and I used them many years ago and back then they were reliable then.
Thanks again.

Ichthys knows what most fish are, so listen to him not me :)

Thank you Ichthys, they look a lot like the darter tetras but from what I can see from photos the darters don’t have barbels which these guys have. I ordered eight rosy loaches and got two rosy and six of these.
This photo shows the barbels
thanks again

Hello! I don’t have much loach experience- but is it possible they could just be stressed/discolored or female/male differences?

Just based on pictures, is looks like grey isn’t that unusual for a rosy loach? Again I’m just tossing ideas, I don’t know much about loaches 😅

Ah, sorry, I didn’t notice the barbels in the first pic. In that case I don’t know. Either Rosy Loach or some Yunnanilus bycatch?

Thanks Biofish, the shop did send two of the rosy loaches its just the other six are very different. The rosy ones are washed out but its just their second day here.
Thanks Ichthys I will continue to see if I can ID them, I don’t know how big they might get or what they need, they are eating very well and seem to have okay behaviour a bit boisterous for the little fish I keep maybe.
Thanks for trying.

Could also be a Nemacheilus, maybe N. pallidus? There are so many that are variable and look very similar. It might also be easier once it settles.

Thanks again for you help. I looked at the Nemacheilus and Yunnanilus species there are quite a few and many are similar. I will post another picture when they are more settled. Hopefully they don’t get too big and I will be able to keep them.
thank you

Yep, that's a fish alright.

Here are better photos, they are well settled now, I have been looking at loach species but haven’t found them, there are so many,
Maybe someone will know.
Thanks
