Hi,
We all know those Mickey Mouse platies and swordtails because of that mark on the caudal penducle. And we know them of those commercial bred specimens. But this specific mark is actually not a fancy trait but a wild trait. Specifically in maculatus platies (Xiphophorus maculatus). There are different shaped marks on the caudal penducle in wild Maculatus platies. But not all wild specimens will show a mark on that spot. But a serious number do. And that Mickey Mouse mark is one of them. It's just a coincidence that this mark happens to look like a Mickey Mouse cap. Nowadays, it's been introduced in fancy Maculatus platies, fancy Variatus platies and fancy swordtails.
