Part of guppy head missing?

I wouldn't use that sand if it says not to use in aquariums.

I saw that sand at my local lowes a few weeks ago. IMO it's a bit to light for aquariums. Just my opinion though.

Thanks so much, everyone; I will look for Quickrete. What do you-all thing of this fascinating production from the yellow guppy? The face wound looks much better, but I’m wondering what this might be.Sorry for the crummy photo quality. The other guppies are still pestering this one so she/he hides in the back corner a lot. It’s the yellow guppy on the left.

Hi all, I’m happy to report that after salt application, everyone seems recovered and healthy! Current fish are now 3 guppies, 3 bronze corys, 1 unk plecostomus. The Quickrete sand isn’t available nearby (supply chain issues, maybe) so I got some pH neutral aquarium sand, enough to build a beach for the corys. I’m just thinking through how to execute that without stirring up ammonia or making a cloudy mess and stressing the fish.

The tank has 1 tbsp/20l water, put in 2 days ago. Given the 3 corys, should I start to water change out the salt, or wait a few more days?

You want to keep salt in the tank for a week after the wound has healed. This makes sure the wound has actually healed properly and doesn't just heal over top and leave an infection underneath.

Hope this helps you to sex them if you don't already know. I liked to keep at least 3 females to one male. Males are programmed to chase the females and will do so relentlessly, so if there's more females than males, they will at least get a break occasionally while other females are getting chased!

That would explain why Lime Green is being constantly harassed! We are down to 1 female to 2 males. Until the fry grow up and join the tank, that is.

Females can die from stress and exhaustion due to constant harassment...having lots of plants to hide amongst will help if youre not able to correct the ratio
