Hey,

Ive had my male guppy about 6 months. I had 3 others but they all died due to either by being attacked by my guppy or due to a powercut i had about 3 months ago. This guppy survived all of that, and now for no reason i can think of he's developed these funny black spots... hes never had them before and ive only noticed them appearing over the last week or so. Ive also noticed that he's not been as active as usual.. What could be wrong with him?

Ive check the water in the tank and that all seems fine and all my other fish are healthy and active. Any suggestions?

Jess

Here's a picture of him taken about 3 weeks ago - it's not great but i cant see any spots!

Doesn't look like a disease to me--male guppies typically don't display full color until they are closer to maturity, though, so if this is accompanied by growth to his tail fin, it could just be his adult coloration. I wouldn't worry, just watch and make sure behavior and eating remain normal.

no biggie ive had many guppies who change colors or gain spots just as long as u dont see fuzzy stuff on them ur ok

id encourage its color try feeding it some color enhancing flakes lol

There is actually a condition called black spot but as far as my research tells me, there's no need to worry and its not fatal. It even says you can safely buy fish that have it!

I think one of my Plattys has is so I looked it up a few weeks ago.

Hey,

Thanks for the replies!! I shall keep an eye on him! He has still been eating, though he's never really eaten a lot so it wouldn't be unusual for him not to eat anything for a couple of days...

He hasn't got any fuzzy stuff on him but i will keep an eye on him!

I feed him tropical flakes along with my other fish, but i used to feed him some pellet things for guppies which is supposed to enhance their colours! :D lol I gave up with it after my HUGE swordtail (Christine!!lol) kept eating it... Ive never seen anything eat as fast as she does.... she ate all of his pellets before he noticed they were there... she's a lovely bright colour now btw! :D lol

That's black spot disease. It normally comes about when you introduce new fish. My red zebra has had it for a month or so now. Still not gone.

I haven't added any new fish to that tank for four months... Weird... :/ What can i do? Is he likely to die from it?

My fish has had it for more then a month now. He hasn't died yet.

It's getting worse... :-(
Poor Guppy...

I don't think that black spot does anything bad to them. Mine doesn't whoe any signs of stress.

Hey,

Ive looked on a couple of websites and im confused!!! According to these sites black spot develops slowly over a matter of weeks or months... My guppy seems to be getting more and more black spots each day!! As my other fish dont have it im wondering if maybe its just his colouring... Ive attached a picture to show how many more spots he has!! Ive also noticed that it's mainly on his fins, which isnt typical of black spot disease which apparently attacks the whole body...

I just thought id mention that, if other people's fish look like mine, it MAY not be black spot and rather, just the fish's colouring!!!

Jess

So, previous picture was taken yesterday evening, this one was taken about an hour ago..
