Hey guys! This is for pure curiosity. I love Cory catfish a lot, to the point I think they’re my favorite fish. I didn’t know that they were different species at first, so I bought a lot of individuals of different types teehee.
And I gotta say, personality wise my favorite are albinos, hands down. I think I read somewhere that they’re one of the few not nocturnal cories, so they’re most active through the day, but the albinos I’ve had are by far the friendliest little group ever. Seeing my antisocial candy stripped pleco cushioned in between a pile of albinos was enough to stab me in the heart. And they aren’t afraid of my hands, they even actively nibble my fingers.
Emerald, speckled, and copper cories are lovely too. They aren’t as people friendly but they aren’t people shy either. The emeralds were super skittish when I first got them but now they just like to form cuddle piles on my plant leaves and watch the outside world and don’t care about people anymore. The emeralds are also the most active during the day, not really staying in one spot too long.
Julies though…. I’m afraid of buying one ever again. They’re extremely skittish. I’ve bought 9 total but not a single one survived (3 first time and 6 second)…. Every time I walked by the tank they scattered like flies and audibly thunked into the aquarium glass. One for some reason had an extremely bloody mouth, from his barbels somehow getting ripped off (in a sand substrate tank with only other Julies) and I’m still scratching my head on how that happened. One tore a gash in their side in their sprint to get away and they banged against one of the decorations (that I’ve had for a long time and personally sanded down all the rough edges months and multiple fish QT’s ago so I have no idea how he did that). I just can’t keep them alive and I don’t know how to?? I feel so bad…. But I just don’t know. I’m terrified of trying them again.
What are your guys’s experiences?
