Dunno, had peace lillies growing from mine for some time..

Jesus every single plant I’m googling that I would like is poisonous to dogs and cats, any other alternatives that definitely aren’t?
 
They are only poisonous if eaten by mammals it’s been debated the effect on fish but I don’t personally have concerns based on what I’ve read and watched. It is why I only get plants that grow up at the moment - at the end of the day in terms of risk to animals etc it’s the same as getting a house plant in a pot.

I think some of the small palms are not toxic though like parlour and umbrella palms

Going to get some parlour palm tomorrow, thanks :) how will I attach it to the tank? I’m thinking in the pot with roots in the water then steel pvc wire to hang into the back?

You need to rinse all the potting soil off the roots so they are pretty clean. I’ve seen some people grow them with wire wrapped around the stem and then hooked over the side or you can buy acrylic riparium planters off Amazon either a little basket or I have a square planter. I feel like there should be a product range to help this part of the hobby but it is a bit DIY at the moment.

I might try the wire around the stem because I don’t have a lot of room in the back of the tank, thanks :)
 
Here's my 240 gallon with Syngonium .Just to let you know,cichlids will eat roots in fact my plant is all rope like roots until they go into the sand and gravel substrate,THEN they develop the fine roots. The Rainbows eat any of those fine roots that are exposed.

Other people will tell you to use Pothos but,it has a big drawback,if it finds a wall? It attaches itself like super glue. Just melds into the painted walls. Syngonium does not do that.
Anyways- MANY types of houseplants love roots in water the rest above. You could try Dracaenas. Lots of variety with them. The Aroid craze means more are available that were swamp plants in the wild.

Well I went out ruder and bought myself a parlour palm, I’ll be updating my planted journal with it later (feel free to check out the journal too if you haven’t already lol ) I’m converting my fully artificial rift lake tank into as much plants as I can :)
