I’m growing hornwort outside and I have 1 strand in my container. Should I cut it into sections and grow it that way? Or leave it as it is? (See picture) duckweed to be added also

Just leave it as it is, but I think it's elodea that you have there! Hard to tell from the pic, got any close ups?
Will grow just as madly as hornwort though, so no worries either way!

Ah, yep, it's elodea, used to be called elodea densa apparently, but we still call it elodea here in the UK, US folks call it anacharis. :) Has more normal leaf like leaves on it, while hornwort it's more like needles. I only learned how to tell the difference the other day myself, when I posted pics of mine -I tend to just call both pond weed, lol - and found out what was in my tank was hornwort. Pic below to show the difference in leaves. Makes no difference in terms of care or propagation though!

Ahh okay I still like it :) does it still have the nitrate absorbing properties of hornwort?

you can add some soluble garden fertiliser to the container of water with the plant in. Use 1/2 to 1 level tablespoon per 20 litres of water. or follow the directions on the packaging if it's concentrated.

Adding duckweed?

On purpose?

That's like saying that things are going well but it would be nice to catch bubonic plague, just because.

I’ll be adding duckweed with a purpose haha my mbuna are eating my plants in my tank so hopefully introducing duckweed (grown in the container outside with the hornwort) will lessen their drive to eat my nice plants lol plus I’ll just sell excess duckweed on eBay

I agree, loathe duckweed!

Also it's recently reappeared in my tanks. Maybe a year since I eliminated it. How. Just..... how. Just a few odd leaves here and there, mixed in with my floating plants, and I remove them as fast as I find them, but I know it's a battle I'm doomed to repeat for the rest of my days somehow.

Added duckweed :)
