Hello, my male molly has a white string at the end of his tail, he has a nipped tail and on that nipped tail area the white string is there. The picture below is not my molly but a sample of another fish, the string at the end of the molly’s tail is white and skinny and looks slightly longer than the string here in the pic, it does not look like the one below but it is kind of similar. Can anyone tell me what this is? Not a parasite right?!

Are you sure that it is a Molly? It looks more like a platy to me. That looks like a fin in perfection, and I would say nothing to worry about.

Really need a picture of your molly but if it's similar to the platy in the picture, it's probably just excess mucous caused by something in the water irritating the fish.

Check the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH. Post the results (in numbers) here.

Tell us about the tank.
How long has it been set up for?
How long have you had the fish?
Have you added anything new to the tank?
What sort of filter is on the tank?
How often and how do you clean the filter?

The OP has already stated that the platy shown is not the fish which it concerns. This platy has just the same problem as the actual molly of the OP.

I would go along with this...
