My Molly.
-ez27rt.jpg

was looking a little on the pregnant side, so I transferred her to a birthing tank. Half an hour later, 18 babies.

My first babies in this hobby.

Congrats, so cute! How many did you get?

I got 18 In total. Although I think she may have popped one out after I put her back in the main tank as I'm sure I glimpsed one hiding in the green. Now I just need to find a home for a pair of three spot gouramis that I regret buying that are currently occupying my nursery tank. (Another regretful purchase made without research ). The babies can then go in there for a couple of months.

Your molly isn't a molly but a red wagtail swordtail. But congrats on the fry... :)

Wow. It was in a mixed tank of mollies and swordtails at the store. I just assumed it was a Molly. Blimey. I must admit, the fin layout is different to the two completely white Molly's that came with it.

Swordtail? Don’t swordtails have a pointy tail? This fish looks like my red wag Platy. I might be completely wrong though, in which case just ignore me XD

I also think she's a Molly! Also researched it, and the molly pics I found look exactly like her.....

Ok, got me thinking now, mine has a pair of very pronounced pelvic fins and an anal fin. So does the female Red wagtail swordfish. I may be wrong but Mollies don't seem to have very pronounced pelvic fins, or even have them at all. I'm no expert, as you can no doubt tell.

Just the males of swordtails, show a sword. Females don't.

The information you've found is incorrect. The photo you've shown, shows a red wagtail platy.
Hoping that this is a Molly. Otherwise I went in for 4 mollies and came away with none.View attachment 156266
Yes, this is a silver molly.

I guess I'll know one way or the other when the male fry either do or don't develop swords as they grow.

Yours is a real swordtail female (picture#1). No doubts about that. I keep and breed livebearers ever since the 1970's. You can check these fish out on my own website (non-commercial). My website is to be found on my profile.
