3D Tank Backgrounds

I‘m inclined to insert PVC inside the foam to create the hide after seeing a guy on YouTube. He also used tinted cement for a slate look. He had some kind of T Connector. I grabbed a few stills from the video.

Yeah I used black cement dye. I think it’s ‘charcoal’ or something like that.
Just remember with cement, unless you soak it in water for months after it cures/hardens, you definitely want to put a coat of some sort of sealant to keep your ph from blasting off the charts

you made some? Any pics?
thanks for the sealant tip.
I didn’t make a background, just a sandfall (under water waterfall) it’s not currently in a tank (some technical difficulties that I’m working out).

Here’s a few pics I snapped. I also included the one of the epoxy I used to seal it. I highly recommend it. But I haven’t tried anything else. It was one and done product for me. I doubt I will try anything else since this works so well, and it’s made for sealing fish ponds so it’s fish safe.

Wow! That’s fantastic!
Lovely tank BTW
Thank you. It has a different centerpiece now. I have new plans for the sandfall structure.

If you like crafting at all you’ll like making things for your tanks. Especially with how expensive actual aquarium products are.

hope so, that $1000 background in Serbia blows me away. I’d love to see it IRL though. It’d be funny if it looked all shiny & fake.

For $1000 it better be real nice looking. I’m sure it’ll take you a try or two to get it how you want it. Even then I’m sure you’ll find things you should have done differently.

Serious Ugly was dropped off at my door in the form of a 3D tank background from YourFishStuff. It is the color of dog 💩. Having owned many dogs who outweigh me, I know dog 💩. The texture is as ugly as the color, the same as when you step in 💩wearing heavily treaded hiking boots. I have an email into their customer service in which I reminded this company I have made more purchases than I can remember.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so others may be dazzled. I want it gone & my $45 back. It was a small size test run for a bigger tank.

I don't blame you, I would want my money back too. It looks like someone ran over a giant dog poop and flattened it out
The husband said he can make a better dog poop background. Theirs is all the same poopy dark brown. He said since one of our dogs has lighter colored almost caramel shade poops, he can blend it in with the darker poop color & create a more realistic “Rocky” background as they’re calling it. He says he can trowel it onto the back of the tank & coat with a clear spray. 😹😹😹😹. Ew!

Yeah brown is not the choice color for rocks. Hahah. Maybe it looks better wet? But it also probably just looks like wet dog poop.

It’s the monotony of a single shade of poop brown along with the texture that makes it hideous.
😹😹😹 I should wet a corner. But then again, been seeing enough wet dog 💩💩💩💩lately.

Not positive, but looking like the company will reimburse me the $40 cost of the turdground, but I’m out their flat $6 shipping fee & expect to pay double that to return it. Could be worse. Going to NJ & not Serbia.
