Hi guys, I’ve had 5 cherry’s barbs for a while now, originally in a 30 litre Biorb but now in a 60 litre, planted community tank. Recently I’ve noticed them turn from what was originally a kind of pale orange colour colour to a dark red colour and also develop these large flaring fins on the bottom. Is this an age related thing or perhaps they are now thriving in a bigger planted tank. I assume these changes are positive but just curious as to why/what is happening. Have attached pictures of them when I first got them and then now.

I’ve also been told my tank may be overstocked but everyone has been happy for months, regular water changes and maintenance is done and all parameters are perfect 🤷🏻‍♂️ It is a 60 litre, planted tank with 5 Cherry Barbs, 5 Cardinals & a pair of Dwarf Gouramis (1M/1F)
Thanks!

Are cherry barbs mainly a bottom or middle or top of tank fish? I’ve been told they’re midd-bttm area fish but there seems to be nothing definitive.

I’ve never kept them and I’m thinking of moving on the Zebras/Leopards and Glow Ring Danios I adopted earlier in the year. They’re crowding out the top of the tank forcing the Medaka downwards which was never their position of choice previously.

Yep, mid to low level fish...very nice fish to keep, even though the males are more brightly colored, the females are just as attractive, IMO

As Slapyhppy says, they are doing better in their new environment.
Plus, the males will be the darker, redder ones, whilst the females will show more of that gold stripe running along their bodies.

Regarding their area of interest in the tank, in my well-planted 100 litre, they're all over the water column.
