Heeeeeyyy me again!

So I’ve added plants to both my tanks and been using this tropica premium nutrition liquid.. but I need to no because I haven’t been able to find an answer to my specific question, can I just add a pump directly to the tanks each day without doing water changes etc? As I have been for the last 3 days and I’ve seen a brilliant result with my plants but I didn’t no if it was dangerous for the fish to just put it in like that or not?? Anyone have any idea? 🤔😵‍💫

Hi yes thats fine to do just keep an eye on algae as if you dose more than the plants can use it could cause a bloom.

You should still keep on top of regular water changes as a rule always

atleast 25% a week as this affects/improves the overall chemistry in the tank

Exeption being when using medications sometimes

The fertiliser shouldn’t hurt your fish

a significant overdose of fertilizer will have a negative effect on fish
I don't know how much "one pump" is and instead would try to use a (unused) syringe to accurately measure how much you add before it goes in the tank, both so you don't overdose and be able to reduce or increase the amount if needed

I use the same fertiliser from Tropica, I have always used it once a week, day after water changes.

Plants grows really well with just one dose per week.

Overdosing nutrients into the tank is not wholly recommended as excess nutrition in water column will likely lead to algae issues.

And of course the live stock will be ingesting the fertilisers as well, not always a good thing to do, especially excessively overdosing, there will likely be an effect somewhere later down the line so not worth the risk imho.

If plants need extra nutrition, especially for root feeders like Amazon swords and cryptocorynes plants I would recommend using substrate root tabs.

Root tabs means that any excess nutrition will stay in the substrate layer where the plant roots are and more likely not to leach into the water column, I use Seachem Flourish Root tabs, only need to add tabs every 3-4 months, always got good growth using this as well.

The instructions do say to add it once a week at the dose rate 6 ml (3 pumps) per 50 litres. If you want to add it every day you need to add 1/7 of that amount so the total weekly amount is 6 ml per 50 litres.
I’ve been dosing everyday only one tiny pump as I’ve planted new plants. Have had a little bit of a algae bloom but I’ve done two water changes and cleaned the tanks and filters etc but just wanted to make sure that’s all. And I always do at least a 50% water change weekly anyway without fail. Thankyou though everyone much appreciated ☺️👍🏼♥️

Whilst you seem to have artificial nutrition covered, don't forget that the intensity and duration of light can also have an adverse effect on algae growth. ;)
