Morning all. Any idea what this fish is? The one on the left, not the Texas on the right. Its about an 1.5 inches long and was found in the filter housing of my Juwel 350, Im guessing it took up home there as a baby than couldnt get out again when it got bigger! I didnt buy it, god knows where it came from!

Long, long, long ago, I discovered a rather porculent kuhli loach living in the top of a filter. It'd been there for mebbe three months at most, and I guessed it wasn't best pleased to be evicted.
Every time i clean my filter there always is a baby fish in there LOL

Excellent replies, thanks people. Its funny to hear it's almost common for babies to grow up in there.

The tank is a fairly new one, set up in July, it was second hand but arrived dry and spent a couple of weeks in the living room before I got the new lights and filters all set up. Everything that went in it was moved across from a 180l tank so I thought id seen literally everything there was to see so I was pretty surprised get my hand bumped by it when I was cleaning out the filter box!

It must have come from the shop is a tiny fry mixed in with one of the other cichlids. Its great, and so well coloured for such a young fish. I think shes big enough to evade her tank mates now so fingers crossed I'll see more of her, maybe I'll get her a mate!

Thanks again

Dan

Ha! I definitely got a shock then doubted myself until I definitely felt is twice more, its quite a deep filter box on the Trigon 350 so she was easy to miss but a trusty net fished her out.

It's funny though, I had a female Convict that I was sure must have died and been eaten as she was about 2.5 inches long and I hadn't seen her for about a year and obviously had spent a lot of time cleaning and rearranging and the like without bumping into her, then one day, 6 months after Id given up, there she was front and centre!

I wouldn’t get a male to go with her they are pretty vicious but can be managed as singletons but as a pair could do quite a bit of damage if they spawned.

Thanks for that Wills. I did notice last night that now shes released from the filter shes bossing fish twice her size around, young Macaws and a Jewel

Seriously need to see more of your tank please post some more photos.

Salvinis are a tough fish no doubt just let her settle in and you might be ok but it sounds like a heavy stocked tank so hierarchy could sort it’s self.

Btw I can tell she’s a female because she has a black spot on her gill plate - males don’t have these

yeah she is like a new fish, so they are setting up a pecking order, seems like she is the queen of the pecks!
