Hey everyone, I’m new to the fish tank hobby and this forum for that matter. I was just wondering if you could help me out with my powder blue gourami. I cannot tell if it is male or female and I also cannot tell if it is pregnant or not. It is very plump.

Id keep a close eye on him the next few days. Scales pointing out (pineconing) could be that your gourami has the start of dropsy.

Hows he feeding?

He is eating little food, however, he is beginning to eat some algae on the glass.

That means he has parasites. Would look for some meds for him, something like PraziPro is good; one dose lasts 7 days then repeat if necessary.

@Colin_T may have some other suggestions.

Actually, it could mean a number of things, including that he hasn't eaten in a while and is excreting mucous from his alimentary canal.
You're right, however, in that it isn't good.

@Colin_T made a useful post about this issue.
