I think one of my favorite South American cichlids are severums! Their body shape is cool. They have awesome coloration.
Currently I have a super red spotted gold severum (just got him yesterday), a orange shoulder aka rotkeil severum, and 2 green severums. I would like to get Heros liberifer and Heros notatus once I get my 6 foot 180 gallon up and running.
Here are my current severums! Anyone else keep them? If so let's see them! :)

I love severums too :) I had mine for 8 years and her first owner had her for 4 and she was an adult when he got her so she was a fine old age at the end. She was whats now Heros Liberifer but then the true Heros Severus.

I've had a few others over the years too, a few reds, a few greens but Lilly was the only one I kept for such a long time.

Oh that is cool! You should get some more! :)

I just love Severums too!

It may have been bad luck but I tried twice to introduce Green Severums and they were strangely aggressive (they even killed one of the larger Gold's) so I opted to just keep Golds and Reds as they are so docile. I don't believe this is typical but these guys were prettier so didn't seem worth the drama so I rehomed them.

I plan to put Discus in here again (and get rid of the prefab décor) after the Acaras grow out and are relocated. Frankly the Acaras don't generate enough nitrates for the dracaena anyway so I could use a nice big, dirty pleco too!:

Absolutely stunning fish! I am not sure if I have one of the oranges or not. I bought a used setup with 15 cichlids & a few ppl here helped with the IDs, but I can’t remember who is who. I’ll try to get a pic for you.

Thank you so much for the kind words. That's very nice of you to say.

That good looking guy in your picture is a Blood Parrot. A really good looking one at that as many are pale and malformed as it's a hybrid fish and cannot reproduce.

I love them (I have two) because they're full of personality. Cranky, irritable, smart but basically harmless. Weirdly smart, unlike my treasured severums which are a dumb as rocks! Parrots can be friendly and even 'affectionate' towards their owners, not unlike Oscars (if it's true affection is debatable but they're definitely thrilled to see you).

Mine will allow me to do what this one does to a much lesser extent but this Parrot is amazing to see:

Thank you so much! The pictures are a few months old so the population has changed slightly but the tank with the Acaras and Severums is a 120 and the tank with the 'Bamboo Forest' is a 75.

The latter is beginning to make me nervous in that they don't seem to stop growing! They are now 3' taller than in this image! Absolutely spectacular nitrate reduction though. I used pothos and inside of 2 weeks, nitrates fell some 70%-75%. But 'Bamboo" is such a profound nitrate sink', I actually bought two test kits in disbelief as after about a month, I can't read any.

These are the Bamboo/Pothos tanks:

The 'bamboo' is supported with a false top made of lighting grid (I did this because my Oscars absolutely destroy any plants I've attempted to plant. They can't move these!
