So, in my tank, I have mainly molly’s and platy’s who are having lots of babies! I have four little ones that I have no idea who they came from and are a different colour/pattern to any others in the tank because they are all pale greyish with black tips on their tails. I know the colours and patterns can vary from fish to fish and read that it can take a few months for their colours to fully develop but I haven’t had my fish long enough to know enough about what type of colours/pattern each breed of fish can have and which fish they were likely to come from! I had hoping someone might have any idea as to which fish they could be?!
Apologies for the rubbish photo but they dart about so quickly it was tricky getting a snap!!

The fish in the third photo look like guppies and it looks like a guppy.
So yes, those two bigger ones are guppies but those little ones were born about a week or two after getting the female guppies and they def weren’t pregnant when I got them (they both are now, just not had their babies yet!) That’s why this is so baffling…?!

You can’t say they definitely weren’t gravid when you got them. They/one of them might have dropped most of her fry in the shop, with just a few left to drop.

No, you are right, I can’t say for definite but I just assumed that because the shop kept the male/female guppies separate they would not have been pregnant 🤷🏻‍♀️ but it would explain how the fry got here!! I did think it’s strange how they are a different shape and colouring from the other fry we have been having but !
I did read that the females can have the fry in separate goes but didn’t think too much of it at the time but I will read up more on that now so I can understand it more.

There is no such thing as a virgin female guppy, sorry!!

Females are often gravid by the time they’re first indentifiable and separated. They can hold sperm for months and use it for several batches of fry.
