I have one male betta, but i think that the tank that came with it is too small for it (it's only .5 gallon) my lfs is having a sale on glass tanks, and they have a ten gallon starter kit for about 20 bucks. If i get that tank, what other fish could i put in with my betta? i might put a divider and just get another male, but am wondering if any fish or sea creatures are compatible with a betta in a 10 gallon
thanks
here is a pic of my tank now:

If I were you I would add snails so that it can help clean the surface of the glass, and they will also eat any uneaten food which is great because you won't have to worry about food rotting. You should also get some live plants so that the environment is perfect for your Betta.

eh i saw snails at my LFS and they were eating the plecos. So I don't know if they would be ok or not. Try a pair of guppys, the betta will have a hay day on the fry :)

the betta might also eat the guppys so it might not be a good idea. You could try cory, or ADFs.

I currently have my betta in a ten gallon with a few mollies and an platy. It It mostly depends upon your bettas personality. I was told by my lfs that the betta is fine with any community fish. I would research any fish you are looking at just to make sure they are not fin nippers. I also would not get any fish smaller than the betta to ensure it does not become lunch or dinner.

snails wont eat all of the rotting food.
if there is food left after a few minutes that your betta does not show interest in then you should remove it!

imo-snails dont do much for the sides of the tank (i have apple snails)...thye just look pretty :)

i second the cories. just make sure that you get 3 or more as they get depressed when not in groups :(

why not get him like a 2 gallon and make the 10 a female betta tank?

But you can keep platties with bettas.

Yes, platys are good with bettas!
Aren't neon tetras supposed to be good with bettas??

i thought tetras were fin nippers nad will nip the bett'as fins? also thought guppies were a no no becuase of thier fany tails and the betta may see it as competition..

cories are good :) platies are good :) otos are also goo :) snails just look pretty :D (at least tha's all mine does). It might be better to just split it up into 4 sectiosn and put a male betta in each section (that's what i did with my last 10g).

Oh yeah, sorry! Tetras are fin nippers.

When my betta lived with black fin tetras he was fin, but the tetras didn't go by him. I have a feeling the little neon tetras would be dead meat (literally) with a betta!
