As far as I was aware boesmani didn't have the black band? If that's the case, what do I have?

The best I could do I'm afraid, he's super quick!

How long have you had them? It could be a bit of stress? Or it also looks a bit like a female. Unfortunately though it could also be a hybrid.

Wills

I was thinking hybrid aswell...I've had them around 2 months, 3 'Boesmani' and 4 Dwarf Neons for now. He/she is the biggest at around 2" and seems to be a bit of a bully, chasing the others. The other 2 'Boesmani' also display the black band but not as prominent

I've had a look and I'm sure they're not maylandi....mine definitely have the blue and yellow especially when the lights first come on. But typically there's an orange or yellow band running across the middle....if only they weren't so quick!

here's another I tried to get...2 neons at the top and 2 'boesemani' ...I'm new to rainbowfish so I honestly don't have a clue 🤔

Probably a hybrid between Melanotaenia boesemani and something else.
Where did you get them from?

If you want to see all the different Australian and New guinea rainbowfishes, check out the following link. It's one of the best sources for identifying different species.

Ooh 🧐 I'll have a look, thank you!

It's so quick...I think it's male as its very dominant in the tank, so much so that the others stay at the sides and near the surface out its way. I phoned the place I bought it from and they tried to tell me it was a stress line 🙄

Or is it a female?
