What Fruits and Veggies Can Go in the Tank?

Just feed the fish, fish food. This is the same as feeding chickens all the scraps, chickens do best being fed chicken food which is designed for chickens. Fish do best being fed fish food designed for fish.

A side note to this I had a friend once who had a Giant Gourami he used to feed it ice cream as a treat.
w-what happened?

w-what happened?
The Giant Gourami lived in a swimming pool in the basement of his house he was basically full grown and loved his ice cream. Funny story to go with this, along one wall he had a 20 foot long tank with three full grown Tyre Track eels. Anyhow his wife had enough of this and said it is either me or your ******* fish. He said by honey. !!!

The Tyre Track eels were magnificent they used to climb out from time to time and end up on the floor, even though they looked half dead they always bounced back. I think there is a message in that about fish keeping but I'm not sure how to word it.

Yummy, I never thought of it as food, mind you they eat cats and dogs in some places of the world and I don't think of them as a food source either.

Fish are eaten all around the world. Giant gouramis and other types of gourami are eaten in tropical Asia. Discus, angelfish, livebearers & catfish as well as other types of aquarium fishes are eaten in South America. In New Guinea the locals used to eat rainbowfish and various perch and catfish. Australian aboriginals used to eat rainbowfish, perch and catfish found in freshwater creeks, rivers and billabongs. Basically if your a fish (or any other animal) on Earth, your probably going to be eaten by someone or something.

Lionfish look like they would be a hassle to prepare for eating, just look at it!

The spines are hollow but have a small venom sac at the base of the spines. When pressure is put on the top of the spine, venom goes up the spine and into whatever is putting pressure on top of the spine.

The venom is protein based and breaks down with heat.

If you ever get stung by one it hurts but if you put the stung part (usually a finger or hand) into hot water, the pain goes pretty quickly. It's preferable to get someone else to make up the hot water. You want it as hot as possible, but not too hot otherwise you burn the skin. You also need to keep the stung part in hot water for an hour or more until all the venom has broken down. This means topping or replacing the hot water to keep it warm enough to do the job. You know pretty quickly if the heat is working because the pain goes within seconds of heat being applied.

After the pain has gone you should get a doctor to check the wound because they can become infected.

If you get stung in the chest or throat, you should call an ambulance (paramedic) and go to hospital immediately. However, the only way you get stung in these places is if you are being stupid and man handling the fish.

yes but in some places they are invasive
so people have made them into a delicacy

We used to have a customer come into the shop each week to look at the discus. She was a lovely little (about 4ft tall) lady from a South American Amazon Indian tribe who used to tell us about the fish she would catch for dinner. She pointed to the blue discus in the boss's display tank and said we got those but they were dinner plate size and tasted great. The boss used pull a funny face and we all laughed at him. I'm sure she did it on purpose just to stir him up :)

There he is. Source PFK Magazine
