This article from Aquarium CoOp on Algae may help you identify what you have. (Fingers crossed it isn't Black Beard Algae of Blue-green Algae.
Thanks for input both - hair algae given the pictures on the link Bruce supplied - but mine is brown.
So I am going to reduce my lighting to 7 hours (in total) - I use a fluval aquasky 2.0. set on "plant boost", sunrise 6-8 am - and then on 70% from 8am to 18.00hrs, and then sunset between 18.00 hrs and 19.00hrs and then just blues on 50% until 20.00 hrs.
So, far to much light - correct ?

Yes to the light question.
I have the same lighting and when I set my tank up, I used the Plant Boost setting and it did just that...it boosted my plants...ALL of my plants!
I switched to the Color Boost pre-set and reduced the hours of daylight.
My plants contiuned to do well and my algae, whilst still present, was much, much reduced.

I use cheap toothbrushes.In case of hair algae, your best friend to remove it is bottle-brush

Simply wrap hair algae around the brush.
Brush part is too small compared to bottle-brush
