I have a honey Gourami that has "fin rot." I've been dosing the tank with a cap of "paraguard" for the past 4 days. It hasn't gotten any better. Is fin rot deadly? Will paraguard cure it? If so, how long will it take? Thanks

Fin rot typically isn't deadly on its own, unless it progresses to the point where it starts eating away at the body. If it's left untreated for that long it can certainly be fatal. Paraguard should help (although as far as I understand it's mostly an antiparasitic, so it probably wouldn't be my first choice for fin rot) - maybe you just need to stick with it a bit longer...? But if you notice the fin rot is not improving, or getting worse, switch treatments. In the meantime, you can add some Indian Almond Leaves (or extract) to the tank, it relieves stress and has mild antibacterial properties. And make sure the water parametres are perfect - most cases of fin rot are down to poor water quality.

What are your readings for ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte, using a liquid test kit?

Can anyone tell if this is fin rot on his bottom fin or something else? Thanks so much

i'm fairly certain that most species of gourami darken in certain spots of their body when they mature or are breeding, so if your water parameters are correct and there isn't any source of stress then it probably is just that.

Mature male honey gouramis will develop black throats. This is more extensive on the natural coloured variety but smaller on the yellow variety like yours.
This is a male yellow honey gourami I used to have

You can see black in the same place as your fish.
