What kind of snail is this?

My tank has been set up for quite some time. Most of the plants I did a 5 minute peroxide dip before putting into tank. I have 2 nerite snails in the tank. The second was added a couple weeks ago. The eggs appeared this week. However, nerite snail hatchlings are not supposed to survive in normal tap water. This is my cherry shrimp only tank (except said 2 snails). I look this morning and see this guy strolling by on the front glass.

Any idea what kind of snail it could be?

Sorry for the picture clarity. It was hard to get camera to focus on a subject smaller than a grain of rice. Probably smaller than a half a grain.

Picture #2 looks like a Malaysian Trumpet snail; however, it’s extremely hard to tell.

Well, it strolled to who knows where and if or when I will ever see it again. I thought its shell looked like the snail you said. If it is what you said, it won't harm my nerites or shrimp will it? Also, they can't reproduce on their own like some snails can they (and over run my tank)?

I don’t know much about those snails but if you want you could get assassin snails to keep the population of the pest snails low

no it wont, might reproduce by itself and get invasive

Agree that it looks like a MTS; if so, you have many more soon, especially if you tend to overfeed...

I thought a Malaysian Livebearing Snail too, but it could be a common pond or bladder snail; as the shell grows it will become more obvious which. These are harmless to plants and fish, and actually valuable in a fish tank.

The snails eat organics, i.e., fish excrement and any dead plant/animal matter and excess fish food. These snails will reproduce to the level sustained by the organics--which can sometimes bee surprising. But they are not contributing to the bioload because they only eat and produce waste that it already in the system (including excess fish food so be careful not to overfeed the fish), breaking it down faster for the bacteria to handle or as plant nutrients.

Do not acquire assassin snails, this is unnecessary and a danger. They are if memory serves me illegal in some places because if they get into the local ecosystem they can decimate native species. There is no need for them anyway.

Besides the 2 nerite snails there are 5 cherry shrimp ( I am hoping will breed soon). That is it. I do not feed them except once in awhile a piece off an Omega One veggie round. They live off algae and biofilm. I use to have fish in there, but that was over a couple months ago. So just snail and shrimp poop all that is going in there.
If it is a single MTS, I would be cool with that. Don't they borrow under substrate and clean up under there ( which my nerites like to bury themselves under there too). Thing that worries me about that is if I will crush them accidentally when I push gravel vac to bottom of tank.

I wouldn’t add an assassin snail, if the OP has Nerite snails.

Malaysian Trumpet Snails are livebearer snails, which means they give birth to live young, instead of laying eggs. Over time, they will overpopulate.

They do burrow under the substrate, and spend most of their time there. Mine only come out at night, which I can live with.

It has been 4 weeks since I added last plant - java moss. And I did 5 minute peroxide bath on it first.
I did 10% water change last Friday and thinking about doing one tonight, but I don't want to loose my new micro snail in case it is something I would like.
How long will it take to grow a sizeable amount so it can be seen and identified?

Up to 5 months, depending on how much food it has access to and what the temperature of the water is.

If you do find it again, try to get some close/more clear shots of it.

I got a better picture of it today.
Follow the shrimps nose directly horizontal to the right. It is on the glass. White speck about a quarter inch up from base of grass.

That is looking like a Malaysian Livebaring Snail. One of the best for any aquarium, as they burrow into the substrate and help to keep it healthy.

As long as it doesn't grow up to be an assassin snail and take out my nerites. Is it easy to tell an assassin from a Malaysian (before it is too late)?
