I have read about telling the sex of cherry shrimp. Of my 5 RCS, in my shrimp only tank (except for 2 small nerite snails), I'm hoping I have at least 1 lucky male. I have a couple picked out I am hoping are males (see pictures). These 2 do not appear to have the large "D" shaped abdomen like the obvious females in the tank. What worries about the clearer one is you can see the yellow portion thru the upper body and I have read that ovaries look like that. Is this ovaries or other organs? The body looks more straight like a male to me. (Note: the 2 pictures of the clear shrimp is the same shrimp.)
On the picture of the 2 red ones on a leaf, I wonder if the bottom one is a male.

What do you think?

Thanks

Picture #2 looks like a male to me.

Males are smaller and have less color and are much smaller.

The shrimp in my signature picture is a male.

This is a female:

As you can see, they are all red, no streaks.

I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing your signature picture. The only picture I see is a beta.

I checked my preferences and I have it checked to show signatures. However, I don't see yours. This is what I get.

All females, the yellow portion ("saddle") is eggs still in the ovaries....

What about this guy? This is the one I thought I was getting yesterday when I had the 2 red ones on the leaf. It doesn't come out as often. Could it be a male?

This is what a male looks like:

As you can see, his body is sort of striped with red and white, unlike the females’ solid red body.

Hard to tell from the pic...males have concave bellies, females have convex bellies

Here is another shot of last shrimp I posted pic of.

That’s a male.
:) Great news!!! Thanks for the help everyone! I still might pick up one at LFS it I find another that looks like that one or the pic you shared.

Last question. If that clear one is a female and has babies, will all babies turn out with no more red than the mom? It does have red spots on it when on black background. It the dad is red like my last picture does that make a difference? Just wondering how much the redness of parents dictates the color and if there is random ones that have color regardless.

Look right under my posts, it’s the giant shrimp. ;)
PK, for those of us using smart phones to view this forum, the layout doesn't show member's signatures on their posts... well, in portrait that is. It does show the signature in landscape, if you turn your phone on its side

Oh, ok. I was thinking, “how on earth could you miss the giant picture of the shrimp”.
