My baby plecos are sticking to the side of the cage after my husband cleaned about half the tanks water. We know nothing about fish and simply ad to sucker fish and two little fish, dont even know what they are. Suddenly babies arrived. 12 of them. I've been feeding them pellets...one type looks like a green dime, the other one is insect larvae and we also give them frozen bloodworms. All advised by google searches. And all seemed well. Ever since my husband switched out some tank water with clean water they have been stuck to the side of the tank. Are they ok???

Congratulations on the babies!

Yes they are a sucker fish they do that. They will eat the algae off the glass, plants and decorations. I'm pretty sure these are pecos. How big is your tank? These fish have a huge bio load (they poop a lot). If you want to keep them I would recommend adding driftwood (its important for their diet) and moving them to a bigger tank. If not you could always give/sell them to your local fish store.

Be prepared to have more babies if you keep the tank clean and the fish happy.

Can you upload a picture of the parents. It will be easier to tell the species.

So, we took a sample of tank water to our local aquarium store...Whats In Your Tank in Land o'Lakes, FL...and they said our chlorine level was slightly high, but that the issue was a high ammonia value. So we bought his tank water and followed his recommendation to switch out 2-3 gallons every few days for a week or two. Apparently they are super poopers. And good news; it worked. We are gifting them our babies. Thank u for your assistance!
