Good day all, my first post here. I got this little guy yesterday after being stuck in a breeder tank in the store for about two weeks. Have nursed him up and he looking much better today, very active. My question is on the split in his tail, should I be worried, also any guesses on type, dumbo super delta? Thank you for your assistance, he is now in a happy 20 gallon, nicely planted tank

Beautiful Betta!

I would guess a Super Delta Tail.

The split could have occurred during shipping, which is a shame. Do you have any sharp plants/decor in the tank that he may have snagged it on?

It will heal, maybe try a hospital tank with metafix and just almond leaves so nothing to snag on fir a couple of weeks or take out any decor that might be sharp so he can heal.

Got him directly from the store, was not looking good in tiny breeder tank with a plastic plant. I will keep a close eye on him.

He probably ripped it on the plastic plant.

Please don’t use Melifix. It can coat the labyrinth organ of the Betta, preventing it from breathing.

Clean water and salt is the best remedy.

What a beautiful betta! He's probably a super delta or a halfmoon.
The split was most likely caused either by a sharp object or him nipping it. The tail should heal fine on its own.
