Hello everyone. About a week ago my blue gourmis had made a bubble nest and successfully bred. I removed the fry and once they became free swimming I started feeding them baby brine shrimp. Now I only had on beginner hatchery, one of those black circles from Hobby. It worked perfectly well (and it still does) but once it ran out I had to wait another 18- 20 hours for my baby brine to hatch. This is why I wanted to get another hatchery. However they are really expensive (I live in Switzerland so everything here is super expensive) and I didn't want to spend more money. So I decided to make my own. I looked on YouTube and there are hundreds of different videos on how to build your own. Also different ways to hatch them. I build mine from 2 plastic bottles using a razor, a screwdriver and a lighter. I also used an air pump and a simple desk lamp. Thats it. Really easy and simple to make. I added water, salt and the brine shrimp eggs. In about 18-20h they hatched. Both the fry and the adults fish (angels, gourmis, appistogramma love it). Here are some pictures and if you want to know how I built it I will be happy to explain it.

Looks good, I like the DIY parts of the hobby.
Admit though before i knew i did actually buy a BBS hatchery online, But only before i saw lots of DIY kits that people make, So i now realise i was ripped off to the sum of £15

I do the same thing. Running all the time...

What do you think of the Hobby hatcheries? Was thinking to pick one up after seeing them in a few videos online

I used it as my first hatchery ever. It really simple to use. I definitely recommend it. However there is no water movement so I noticed that the hatch rate is lower. I still get lots of them even more than I need but in the DIY hatchery has a better hatch rate. Nonetheless I would still get a Hobby hatchery because its a safe bet its going to work.

Ahh nice one. I've used D.I.Y hatcheries, the only reason I thought to get the Hobby one is for how easy it is and how lazy I am  thanks for the feedback
