Shrimp breeding question

December 6th I added 6 cherry shrimp to my tank, one of the females berried up not too long after, she had the babies on jan. 25th I've counted around 25-30. Ive been waiting to add my schooling fish, I want to add something small like ember tetras. I was going to wait until the babies are big so they don't get prayed on. How long until they are a good size so its safe to add a small fish?

How densely planted is your tank?

I would say it’s ok to add them, as long as your tank has lots of plants and lots of hiding places. Java Moss if probably the best plant I can think of, to hide babies.
 
Embers will be just fine with juvie shrimp, but as mentioned above, hiding places are encouraged
 
Cherry shrimp only take 2 or 3 months to mature.

I say it’s fairly dense, and I have quite a bit of Java moss.

Looks good to me. :good:

The only reason why I warn people not to add baby shrimp in with tetras unless their tank is densely planted, is because I have witnessed my Neon Tetras eating baby shrimp. If you look really hard, some shrimp are less than 4mm long, making them the perfect size for fish food.
