Hey guys,
I’ve had my aquarium and fish now for a little over 2 months. My clown pleco a week before Christmas had white spots on it. Went to the pet store and I was recommended Ich-x. I treated the tank with this medication (heat around 80) and after 3-4 days my clown pleco no longer had those white spots. I medicated all my other fish at the time as well. I thought I was good. But within this past week I’ve noticed that my fish are ‘flicking, or rubbing up against driftwood and plants’. I’ve also been having problems with alkaline and harness (very soft water) so I’ve bought a few things to help. I’ve even added a little bit of baking soda to increase it. (Very little). However, I’m also having a few other issues. I have two mystery snails a gold and a blue one. I know for a fact that the gold one is a male but I haven’t been able to sex the other one. The gold one it ALWAYS the one on top and to be honest I’ve notice a decline in my blue snails health. Is it possible that my gold snail is harassing my other snail to the point where it’s getting sick? The blue snail doesn’t move as much as it was before, it sits at the top of the tank on the wall ALL THE TIME. I’ve noticed this and took it into consideration that the blue snail could possibly be looking for a place to lay eggs, so I even lowered the water level and still no eggs. I think I might have two boys and the gold one is harassing the other one trying to mate. Aside from the gold snail “harassing” the blue snail, the blue snail will sit at the bottom of the tank sometimes and be half out and half open for about 30min -1 hour and then move again. It was also kinda ‘opening and closing’ like it was trying to breathe. When my snails close up they don’t close up all the way. I’m just so confused with everything and having an aquarium is a lot more work than I expected and for some reason I just can’t get things right with all this. I’m fully aware my tank is over stocked, I currently have a 5 galling tank that is medicating my dwarf gourami that has fin rot...(it had it when I bought it) I’ve been medicating it for over 2 weeks now and still nothing. I took the gourami out of the quarantine tank and put him back in the community tank for a day or so so he could breathe and relax a little better without the medication. I can’t move my other fish to the 5 gallon tank until my dwarf gourami is better AND I’m heading back to school in 3 days (3 hour drive) so I’m waiting to move some of my fish out of the over stocked community tank until I’m back at my place. If anyone could give me any recommendations that would be amazing cause this hobby is draining me and it’s only been about 3 months?? thank you! Below I’ve added some pictures I’ve taken, the temperature in my tank at the moment is 80 degrees.
