As some of the know, my 20g long wasn’t the best tank I had, partially, and mostly, due to the lighting. Thanks to my new job, I was able to afford a brand new light and filter for it!

Here is the old 20g long:

Here is the new!

(Sorry for the garbage camera, I’ll try to get some more tomorrow on my good one)

Filter is a Aqueon QuietFlow and the light is a Nicrew. This light has really impressed me. Only $38 and is super bright and build sturdy. (You can already see the plants growing towards it, lol!)

The water is still clearing up, after not having a filter for the whole time it had been setup.

———

Couple of questions...

With the previous light, it had a TON of calcium build up on the end of the bar with the airstone, that it was chalk white.

I don’t want this to happen to my brand new light, and I also don’t want water damage, because the warranty doesn’t cover that. Should I go ahead and remove the protective plastic sheet and hope that water doesn’t splash from the filter?

I have been keeping an eye on it for over an hour and I haven’t seen a single speck fly from the filter to the light:

Your thoughts please...

My nicrew ended up fully submerged in my tank for atleast an hour, no harm done. Might aswell leave the protective plastic on though if you're worried

New light improves the look of your 20 gallon long. I try and wipe down my covers and light once a month to help prevent build up.

Well, I don’t think that it’s giving off it’s full light, because of the sheet of plastic.

I guess I’m going to have to take it off sooner or later, mine as well do it now?

Thanks! I’ll try to remember to do that - never had a bar light before, just lamps, lol.

She is gorgeous! Is there anything else in there? How comes it's just her?
Got her as a rescue and never knew they had to be in groups. There is just cherry shrimp and snails.

I’m getting her 7 more friends this week. :)

I’m going to be trimming my 29g tank today, and adding all of the trimming to the 20g long. They are neighbors, and I can literally just plop the trimmings from one tank to another:

You can already see the difference in how the plants are growing; color wise and also height wise.

Here is what the tank looks like now:

(In post #5, I sort of “buttered” the pictures up on my computer... so the images you see above and better than the ones I took 4 days ago.)

I’m done! Thoughts please:

I’m still blown away at the quality of the Nicrew!

I attached some java moss to this section of the driftwood, and then all of the rest to the little piece in the back right corner:

Shrimp really like the leaves. I need to go get more sometime...

That tank looks amazing!!! The back right looks a bit empty imo but I believe that's where the filter is yes? I'm surprised Comet hasn't eaten the RCS yet.

Thank you kindly!

Yes... with the filter being there, it’s very hard to plant successfully.

She does chase them from time to time, but I feed her often enough, and the tank is densely planted enough, that they hide easily. :)
