How to get rid of this filter?

So my friend giveaway one of his tank and there’s this filter thing stick on the side of the tank with silicon, how do you get rid of it completely?

I really hate the look of it, why did they made this!?

If its attached via silicone, you can take a razorblade to it. Carefully, don't mess with seals of the actual tank, if it crosses the glass seals its best to leave it instead.

But those type of filters tend to be pretty decent as they have a good capacity for media

I just hated it, the tank is not rimless and the look of that filter is just the worse!

Also what is LID clear glass tank? Is it the same as rimless tank?
 
What do you mean by this?
Nevermind, I Just googled it.

LID stands for Low (iron) density glass which are used in rimless tank.
 
Support strips on the top of the tank are designed to strengthen it and stop the glass bowing outwards, so it's not recommended to remove support strips and cross members.
 
Done! 2 of em! de-rimming the tank is not a great idea after all!

Also, safety goggle is a must, one of a glass piece flew right through my eye :/

Yes safety glasses should always be worn when working with glass.
