Hoping for suggestions for something to take care of algae

I have a fairly new tank (six months), and have lost two golden algae eaters. It is a 46g bowfront with all community fish. It is a live plant tank, and additionally has a fair amount of algae on the glass (I have a fluval 3.0 light and am still tuning it to try to keep from too MUCH algae), so I don't think the two of them starved to death. About the only think I can think of is that the pH runs a bit high (around 7.6) and the water in this area is slightly hard.

1) If anyone has any guesses whether I did something wrong to kill them off (e.g. if I'm supposed to be supplementing their diet somehow), then I'm happy to go for #3.
2) Otherwise, I'm looking for ANY suggestions on good alternatives. I have to do SOMETHING to get the algae under control.

i can’t say what is causing the algae,but those magnetic cleaners which go on both sides of the tank work. there’s probably a knack from keeping the inside falling to the bottom of the tank. lol

Bristlenose pleco.

Will live it's entire life in there no problem and clean algae like nobodies business. You'll never have dirty glass again....unless it can't ger to it for whatever reason.

What is inside the tank right now @jonatheber? I highly doubt that another fish in the tank predated on them. It could be the water quality that's causing algae and also sunlight. Maybe do a water change and scrub the glass.

I've attached pictures of the algae and the settings from the Fluval app. The lights are on for about 8 hours total, along with a three hour gap in the afternoon.

I've got a few different tetras (hatchet and painted glass), some peppered corys, some guppies and a pair of black mollies. I've never seen a fish even near the algae eaters. The water is 25% changed weekly (promise) ant it test fine. The tank is in a location where it literally gets NO direct sunlight.

Black mollies are actually algae eaters as well. They do a pretty good job even.

Get a small pleco. A bristlenose. It will take care of your issue, and be a neat addition to your tank.
