Hey there. This is a new one that I got in yesterday. He's not doing so hot...

His gills are inflamed, one is pretty much stuck out and he has clamped fins. Sorry about the picture quailty but I think you can see what I'm talking about. Bettamax?

Bettamax!

If that doesn't help it may be a parasite. Watch him closely.

from bettatalk.com

DISEASE: INFLAMED GILLS

GENERAL INFO: The gill or gills of a betta may become inflamed, because of nitrate poisoning, and possibly bacterial infections, or even a defective gill (if it was born that way).
SYMPTOMS: One or both gills will not close all the way (look at betta from the top it is easier to see it then), gills may look red (inflamed) or not, in the last stages, the betta may be gasping for air, unable to breath.
TREATMENT: Isolate sick betta. Do a full jar water change every third day. Every time you change water, add antibiotic (Pick one that treats inflamed gills) to the water. In the case of nitrate poisoning, simply add one drop of methylene blue in betta’s jar.

hope that helps

Well, he's in bettamax, but is doing worse. This is what he's doing all the time now. I am going to pick up some tetracycline tomorrow, any other suggestions. Both his gills are open, this side that you can see is much much better then the other side. :/

I dunno Sorrell. I'm kinda dealing with the same thing over here. That dalmation (now black) plakat lays around just like yours in the last pic. I dunno wtf. At feeding time he hops up like everything is great, then he goes spaztic after eating and shoves himself into a corner clamped up :dunno: Sound familiar?

I'm using bettamax and silver :dunno:

He died last night :( Thank you all for the help, I really don't think there was much more that we could have done. :rip:

Oh wow. :-( I'm so very sad. And so sorry for you. It's not fair that you got him and he was sick. Ugh. I agree though, he must have been too far gone. At least his last few days were the best they could have been. *hug*

i'm sorry to hear of your loss sorrell. it always hurts when one of our fish dies :( . for future reference though, i don't think bettamax is strong enough to deal with something as severe as you described. i would recommend we all have a supply of maracyn two on hand as it does work if symptoms are caught quick enough. i know it can even treat the dreaded dropsy, again, if caught quick enough.

i was gonna say i dont think bettamax would really cure it..

too bad he died..

was that one of the ones sent by accident from thailand ?

Aww Sorrell I'm so sorry. :-( You did all you could for him, and as julie said, you made his remaining days better than they would have been in someone elses hands.
