Stocking my new tank, I have a question.

I want to put cpd's (celestial pearl danios), white cloud minnows, and cory catfish in my thirty-one gallon. Does this sound like a good community, and how many should I do of each?
I was thinking three species might be to much because they are all schooling fish so maybe just 2 out of the three and have more of them?

What are the dimensions of the tank, especially the length?
Do you know how hard your water is? You should be able to find your hardness on your water provider's website. While cpds and white clouds have a large hardness range, a lot of cories need soft water.

Cpds are small fish which do better in larger than usual groups. But unless you have an unusually tall narrow tank there should be plenty room for those three species.
Don't forget that cories do best on a sand substrate; small smooth gravel is OK but rough gravel is not good for cories.



Just to check - the tank is cycled, or has a lot of live plants?

Thanks for the response. The tank is 30l by 18.5h by 13w. I believe our water is harder, I don't know for sure (ill look into this). I have a sand substrate, I chose this because I like the look and I wanted to keep a bottom feeder fish. It is a planted tank, it is planted pretty heavily (the plants will grow out and fill the tank even more). I set it up about a week ago it is not cycled yet, I wasn't planning to put fish in for about another month or so. Do you have any suggestions for amounts of the fish? (other than the cories should be at least 6 and the cpd's should be 8) due to there schooling. What is a healthy stock for these fish and this tank size?

cpd's will need a lot more plant than you have at the moment to make them happy.

I set this tank up about a week ago and I'm not gonna add fish for close to another 2 months. I plan on getting more plants and propagating the ones I have to make the tank very heavily planted.
