Hi all. Redone my 28 gallon tank on friday evening . Got rid of old plants that were covered in algae and completely cleaned the whole tank . Its spotless at the minute. No sign of algae coming back yet . I'd like to keep it that way . Have new elodea densa planted in tank . There are some old root tabs in the sand but I havnt added anything new . No liquid fertiliser or anything. Timer set for 5 hours lighting in the evening and it gets some indirect sunlight during the day . Plants are lovely and green now . My questions are will they survive like this or will I need to add fertiliser? And increase lighting time ? Or should I just wait and see how they go ?

Elodea (aka anacharis) won't use the root tabs, the plant is a column feeder.

It can survive without ferts just fine, but if you find its yellowing or weakening, liquid ferts every now and again will be good too.

Its not a demanding plant luckily :D

I had a piece dug up by curious corydoras, it then floated across the tank, a few days later I saw it lodged in the sand, growing again. It's super hardy and should be fine without ferts, though it may appreciate it every once in a while like NC said.

I've also a vallisneria ordered and some moss balls which should be similarly easy to grow ?
