But in many ways I cannot disagree with the regulations. Where I live the lakes and rivers are so overrun by invasive species. Beyond repair in some cases. Things like sea lamprey, round gobies, Asian grass carp, goldfish, zebra mussels, Chinese clams, plus others. Some species are banned here too as a precaution. Maybe about 10 years back they actually found a small shark washed up on one of the islands. We are freshwater--someone dumped their pet shark in the lake where the poor thing died in the freshwater. People are collectively idiots here, so I totally understand the ecological reasons to put regulations in place.
Ask me where I got my first goldfish! Lol he was caught wild and I'm not gonna toss back a non native fish, so I kept him.
But all of these are kuhli type loaches, stay less than 4 inches and are super neat to see. They love the leaf litter and will hide under logs and the sponge filter. But at feeding time and evening they come squirming out lol and they get along great with cories too.
