So I ended up with a giant tank. I am looking for my measuring tape, but I think it is more than six feet long. It is very dirty, and has been sitting out for awhile. I am having a custom stand built for it (only about 2 feet tall, I want perfect viewing height to be from my sofa). How do I even get a filter big enough for this? Several sponge filters and a couple giant hobs? I don't think I want a canister.

Wowser!
Can't wait to see what you do with this monster☆

I have to rearrange my entire (fairly small) apartment and toss out a bookcase and a shelf. Then get it on a stand and get it clean. I don't even have a hose. I was just told "I have a really big tank for you, make room! It is about 5 feet long!" Then when it got here he said "I may have understated the size."
This thing is longer than I am tall.
As a very tentative stock plan, I want a black ghost knife, a single electric blue jack dempsey, and some firemouth cichlids. I want to look at some hoplos as well.

I didn't think I would be able to get a tank this big for years. Yet here I am. Up until now I was thinking something along the lines of "I don't want a tank I can't move on my own." But I couldn't pass up this opportunity.

This willt be something to look into.....

Get exact measurements first off.

On a 6ft tank, (most commonly 125 or 150 gallon, there are 2 support brackets that run across the middle. Your tank looks like they were cut out. This will greatly weaken the strength of the tank.

With a tank that size, (or any tank for that matter) I would not trust without those brackets. Also, the lid normally rests on those brackets.

Darn. I will have to hope it holds, or see if I can add extra support. It will run for several months before I will actually be able to stock it, so we will see. Once the store opens in a few hours I will set out to get a measuring tape, since I seem to have lost mine.

From some of the quick searches I have done, it seems possible for me to add a glass/plexiglass brace to shore it up. Or drill braces on either side of where they were. I will have to look into my options.
