Is this dropsy? Molly dropsy or pregnant.

I thought my female molly was pregnant as her belly became quite big, but have noticed that the scales are slightly popping outwards and her butt became really red as well.
Is there a way I can try and treat her?

If the fish has stopped eating and is doing a white poop, and the scales are sticking out, then the fish has dropsy and there isn't a cure.
I agree, although you can try with antibiotics or epsom salts to draw out fluid out of the fish, but most likely the molly is not going to survive this, but you always can try.
Dropsy is caused by either poor water quality and microorganisms floating in the water column or neglecting the fish (not doing weekly water changes and vacuuming the substrate). When have you done latest water change and vacuuming your substrate? What are your water parameters? Tank size?

I have a 74L tank with 1 male and 5 female mollies, I only got them 2 weeks ago and made sure to have the tank set up for a week before getting them so I haven’t needed to clean it out just yet.

Parameters are:
Nitrate - 25ppm
Nitrite - 0
GH - 16
KH - 20
PH - 8

I noticed that the water was fairly hard, but when I enquired about it at the fish store they said it should be ok and to use the Pure Aquarium balls.

Thank you for your help.

Sorry about your fish:( I agree with the others. Did you use something like Tetra SafeStart Plus to jump start your tank. If not it usually takes around 6 weeks to cycle a tank. Do you know about the nitrogen cycle? Do you have a water test kit to test for ammonia? Sorry for all the questions but they are important and I do not want to see you lose any more fish.

That’s ok, I appreciate your help and don’t want to lose anymore fish either :( I used Tetra SafeStart yes, I also have the Tetra test kit that shows nitrate is 25ppm and nitrite is 0. Everything seems to display as ok when I do a test, apart from the water hardness is a little high.

You didn’t seem to mention your ammonia levels hun, do you know this?
I do not, the testing kit I have doesn’t include ammonia on there. I will visit the fish store near me to pick up a testing kit for that now and will let you know!

You've got the perfect hardness and pH for mollies, but I'd say the tank is too small for them and bit too much livebearers stocked in it. Mollies need a 30 gallon tank, a 30 gallon tank would be fine for 4 mollies.
