External filter question.

Hi guys, I’ve recently been looking at Lilly pipe outlets for my external. The problem I’ve got is that there’s a lid on my tank and a curved cutout in the glass at the back. If I put a lily pipe connector in my water outlet will be directed from the back of the tank towards the front (width). Will this affect filtration of the water as opposed to having the outlet directed the length of the tank.
