Hello,

So I dont know if I have a problem with the water or Im doing something wrong or if it is just a normal thing. My fish, some of them have a red gills and a little bit reddish heads ?

Basically I have 50galon tank(200l) and I have it for around 4 months, before I had smaller tank (60l) and my fish sometimes has a red gills, heads. When doing the ammonia test everything is fine, same with the rest of the tests, my fish don't seem to feel bad. They are eating normally, behave normal as well. I have a yellow pleco (dont remember the proper name) and when he is attached to the front glass I can see from the bottom that around his mouth he is a little bit red and I was always concern, however he is in my tank, for almost a year and he is fine.

So my question is, is there aomething wrong with my tank or it is normal for fish to have a little bit red gills ?? I will try to post some photos of my pleco tomorrow morning.

Everything sounds normal... are you sure your Ammonia parameters are in check? You need to get an actual number like, “Blank ppm”.

We can’t help you, if we don’t have a photo. Try to upload one soon!

Do the fish rub on the plants and decor?

Just verifying that you dechlorinate the water, Also as @PheonixKingZ mentioned have you tested for ammonia? that can cause fish gills to turn red. When was the last time you did a water change and by how much?

So, last water change I did 4 days ago, 75%, Im going to test ammonia again today. If it comes to the fish, I have never seen fish to rub, they love to eat my plants but not rub. And yes everytime when Im changing the water Im adding water conditioner or tapsafe ans Im testing my source of water as well before adding it to the tank

Ammonia test made 15mins ago

I've had a problem with red gills twice, the first time was chlorine burn when I hadn't added the correct amount of tap safe to my water (I misread the dosage and confused liters and gallons, I know, stoooopid) the second was when I added what I believed to be a type of duckweed to my betta's tank which I promptly removed and did a huge water change. Not sure if this helps lol

I mean I have no duckweed in my tank and I think I add correct amount of conditioner to the water, I guess. I always add amount of conditioner that Im changing, for example if Im changing 100l of water I add amount that will treat 100l

I dont know if it will help but what I have noticed is that my new plants in the tank and the old ones keep turning dark green very quick, looks like they are dying. My plants usually turn dark green after some time but not that quick like this time.

Yes, because the OP said that they were good.

@tybooyahh, I can’t tell from photo, what re the readings?

I finally managed to take a photo of my pleco. He is like that for months now and he seems to act normal all the time

There is way too much red on that fish.

Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for a week and see how it looks.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it's added to the tank.
