I have a column tank with built in filter in the hood but want to upgrade to a external filter is this possible due to the hood?

I just got an external filter. And the brackets fit perfectly through the holes at the back of the hood.

I have just taken over son set up as he has lost interest. I had an internal filter, which needed the filters changed monthly and because of Corona i couldn't get them without being ripped off. I wasn't too sure which external filter to get and whether I would get on ok with it. So went cheap and cheerful to begin with £45 inc next day delivery. But I am really pleased with it so will just run it for a while until I fancy a change. Sad about your angel fish I have 2 (1 orange and silver and 1 black) really beautiful fish.

Sorry just read your original post and saw it says column tank not sure my filter would suit that type of tank. Sorry just skimmed your post whilst cooking dinner.

It’s not a problem thank you for your time anyway. Also trying to decide on the next type of fish to keep the wife wants guppy’s but I’m not getting them haha

If you have a column tank, you might be limited in type of fish. What is the diameter of your tank?

Wow... We want pics of that tank.. :good:

I'd like to see it too :) I'm used to reading about column tanks which are about 12 inches/30 cm. At 2 ft across x 5 ft high it's not something I've seen before.

Width is still a limiting factor at 24 inches/60 cm but not nearly as bad as we were thinking it would be :)

Could be cool with the right stock.
Clean up crew and plant choice is going to be pretty important because maintaining the substrate and plants could be challenging.
