Good afternoon, new to fish tanks and new to the forum. You will all be pretty bored of me before long asking loads of questions. My Pakistani Loach has gotten rather fat and has been like this for about 2-3 weeks now she barely swims about just lays on the bottom of the tank. Some of the information I have read online is that she is full of eggs not sure if this is true. Like I say very new to this.

Hello and welcome to the forum! :hi:

Is the loach a female? Are there any other loaches in that tank?

How quickly did she get fat, overnight or over a few weeks?
Is she still eating normally?
What does her poop look like?

Thank you, hopefully I will learn a thing or 2.
Yes I believe she is a female I have 3 loaches 2 quite big and one a little smaller. Is there a definite way of sexing them. Both the bigger ones appear to be getting rounded bellies. Sorry for my naivety I will learn.

A few weeks she has always been pretty big but the last few weeks she has ballooned. Eats normally. Poop looks fine. When I say I'm new we have had the tank for about a year it was my sons he has now lost interest ( his loss my gain) so I have taken it over and its only just recently I have really gotten into it.

Female loaches are bigger and fatter than males.

If she got fat over a few weeks and is eating well and pooping normally, she probably has eggs. If you do a 75% water change every day for a week, they might breed. They lay eggs in the substrate and if the adults are well fed, they don't normally eat the eggs or young.

That's the assumption I was going by bigger and fatter are females. I will do water changes daily and see what happens. I just feel sorry for her she looks like she about to explode and just swimming to the surface is tiring for her. Thanks for your advice will keep you updated.
