Hi, yesterday I noticed 1 of my platys has a severely bulged eye ! I can only think he's hurt it or been fighting as he was fine and still behaves as normal. Is there any other reason for this. I have another male who now is more aggressive to him as well as the barbs which it chases. Any advise welcome. He is slightly behind the lady black platy, sorry for poor image but they go bonkers when you approach.

I can't tell anything from the pictures.

If fish have a swollen or cloudy eye, it is usually caused by poor water quality, a dirty tank or an injury.

-----------
The best treatment for fish with eye problems is cleaning the tank.

Wipe the inside of the glass with a clean fish sponge.

Clean the filter if it hasn't been done in the last 2 weeks. Wash filter media/ materials in a bucket of tank water and re-use the media. Tip the bucket of dirty water on the garden/ lawn.

Do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate every day for a week and see how the fish looks after that.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it's added to the tank.

-----------
If there's no improvement after a couple of water changes, you can add 2 heaped tablespoons of rock salt, sea salt, or swimming pool salt for every 20 litres (5 gallons) of tank water. Keep the salt in the tank for 2 weeks.
When you do the daily water changes, add salt to the new water before adding it to the tank so the salinity (salt level) in the tank remains constant.

Well I can see quiet clearly, but there Again I no what I'm looking at so must forgive others. He still has a swollen eye and it must be painful. Btw the water is perfect so no other dramas to go on.
I was just asking if I can do anything to help him, not the usual copy paste water changes n bad water. It isn't so that rules all that out.
I wondered , if he's injured, due to aggression,,, what can I do ??
The stock answer to everything is 75% water changes etc etc ,, but water is perfect for all. How to treat a swollen eye is the question.

Water changes don't just remove ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. They get rid of disease organisms in the tank. This is why I recommend doing daily water changes for sick fish, to dilute the number of harmful microscopic organisms in the water. The fewer organisms in the water, the less chance of infections occurring or getting worse. Clean water also helps flush the fish's body out and gives the fish the best chance of healing itself.

Checked the photos again and anyone can see the swollen eye. Only 1 and only on 1 fish so after the response I can see that nobody has any ideas bar the stock water change every day.... I reiterate, all my fish are absolutely perfect so why should I subject the whole stock to stress for no reason to treat 1 fish ?

I have to say, water is perfect!!!
I wanted an expert view on injury treatment n not a beginner copy paste on bad water. If no one knows how to treat an injured fish then that's ok n so be it.

read post #2. clean water and a bit of salt will treat most eye infections in fish. Eyes heal quickly and most eye problems are caused by a dirty environment or an injury.

if it doesn't heal after a week then you might need anti-biotics, but that should be a last resort.
