Hi everyone,

I've noticed that over the last few weeks my honey gourami is looking unwell. Hopefully this video helps to show that there is something wrong with her scales on her side? is it some kind of bacterial infection?

Do a 75% water change.
What is your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate?
What is your GH? (You can find this on your local water providers website)

What sized tank? What other tank mates?

How often do you do water changes and what volume of water do you remove each time?

Tank is 125L. Ammonia is 0, Nitrite is 0, Nitrate is virtually zero. (Tap water Nitrate <1.45)
Hardness 2.31

Tank mates: Platies, Guppies, 2x male Acara, Corydoras, Glow Lights, Male Honey Gourami, Bamboo shrimp, Pleco

I usually do water changes every weekend and take out around 20-30%

I reckon you have 2 male honey gouramis and the weaker one is being bashed by the other one.

I would move the sick fish into a spare tank and do a 75% water change and gravel clean the substrate each day for a week.
Make sure any new water is free of chlorine/ chloramine before it's added to the tank.

Clean the filter if you haven't done it in the last 2 weeks. Wash filter media/ materials in a bucket of tank water and re-use the media. Tip the bucket of dirty water on the garden/ lawn.

Add 2 heaped tablespoons of rock salt, sea salt, or swimming pool salt for every 20 litres (5 gallons) of tank water. Keep salt in the tank for 2 weeks.
When you do the daily water changes, add salt to the new water before adding it to the tank. This helps keep the salinity (salt level) stable.

I'd be very surprised if that was caused by the other male Honey but I do agree Op has 2 males. If it's a fish attack it's far more likely one of the Acaras doing.

I didn't know there were acaras in the tank. They could be the problem too. Either way, the fish needs to be separated (with either a breeding net or spare tank) and given a chance to recover.

Thanks for your help guys. Unfortunately I don't have a separate tank right now and can't get one until this lockdown is over.

The gourami's are a male and female pair as I've seen them breed and it's the female in that video.

Weeks ago on one occasion I did see the female gourami nip the smaller Acara and then in turn the Acara bashed into the gourami but since then I've not seen them interact at all.

Are you sure it's a pair because the sick one has a black anal fin and that is only found on male honey gouramis.

When you saw them breed, did you see any eggs?

Have you got a 2 litre icecream container?
You can poke a couple of hole in the sides and fill it with tank water and put the fish in that. Then have the container in the tank to keep it warm.

If you have a large fish net, put a marble in the net to hold it own. Put the fish in the net and rest the net across the top of the tank so the fish is in water but the net's frame is out of water.

I may have an icecream tub to try. I've already made a fry net so don't have a lot of room haha

Yeah she's definitely a female as her and the male bred 2 weeks after I'd got them. She dropped eggs and everything.

I'd made this earlier this morning and moved her into it with plants but she's literally sat in one of the plants now hardly moving.
