So with the recommendations of several members (@Byron and @Deanasue) I decided to get some new food for my neon tetras, as my old food wasn’t good for them.

I order the Omega One Tropical Flakes off of Amazon a few days ago. I open my package to find this:

It looks really small on picture, but it is HUGE. It’s almost 7 inches tall. I expected it to be really small. I guess I though wrong? Anyway, I am going to return the food you see above and get the 2.2oz size.

I just thought I would share my experience, so you use don’t make the same mistake!

That stuff will go off unless you have a lot of fish. Break it up into small packages and freeze it. You can use ziplock bags for this. Put a bit of food in the bags, squeeze the air out and seal it up. Put it in a second bag and seal up. Then stick it in a freezer.

You only want a months worth of food out at any time and 2 weeks worth of food is better if you want to keep it fresh.

I got fish food today as well. 90 grams ( over 3 ounces). Container looks huge though. I just have two tanks of fish that I feed this to. My betta is fed something else.. pellets. Should last at least 6 months.

The flake size in the New Life Spectrum container are huge. My last food I used was Omega one flake and the flake size was tiny...almost powder size. When you open up that container of Omega One, let us know how large the flakes are.

I have the small size and it lasts forever.

When I have a large container of flakes, I will put just a small amount (enough for a few weeks) in a smaller container, and put the larger container aside. That way I don't have to keep opening the larger container which might decrease shelf life.

That’s what I was thinking! The small trial size of the Tetra food I got when I got my 5g kit from Walmart, lasted me a year. I estimated it would have taken up to 15 years to get rid of all of that food. (Feeding my 8 neon tetras the way I do)

Maybe if I had more fish, I would keep it.

Well, the return order has just been issued. I’ll get my new 2.2oz bottle of food soon. I’ll post a thread, when I get it. (To see if my neons really like it or not)
