Ive had this guy for 2 years now and the shop I got him from only had the latin name (which i cant remember) on the label. Its doing my head in not knowing what type of fish he is! Can anyone help me out? The picture isnt great because he's very shy and I had to get a snap while he was out from under his coconut!

It's very hard to tell and likely not one of the more common cichlids.

It looks to be an American Cichlid although I cannot tell what kind based on the picture.

I know you said he was shy, but try to get some more pictures for us.

How big is he?

I'd say around 2" maybe slightly bigger. I dont know if this picture isany better but I tempted him out with some food and my other fish wanted to be in the spotlight, I tried haha.

Definitely looks like some sort of Cichlid...

Can you call your LFS and ask what type he is? Do you still have the receipt?

I got him 2 years ago from a garden centre and the guy who was working the fish department didnt have a clue when I asked for more information. I've been in since but they have never had the same type of fish again for me to refer to. I might have to go to an aquatics store and ask someone who has a bit more experience.

Typical. :rolleyes:

@Metalhead88 is looking into it.:book:

My guess would be Apistogramma hongsloi.

I can't figure this one out.

I'm starting to think that it probably isn't Apistogramma.

The body shape is not right, it is more shaped like a Salvini. It's obiously not a Salvini, but the shape is similar....especially around the mouth.

I think you might just have it there!

Are you sure? I feel like the body, mouth and dorsal fin shape are completely different. When the dorsal fin is up all the way is it spiked up in the front or it runs flat across the top?
