Hi,

i am currently treating my betta fish for fin rot...but it doesnt seem to be improving much...
Anyway ive also noticed he has a red spot on his mouth...can anyone tell me what this is and if its something i should be concerned about...thank you!

After doing some more research im now beginning to wonder if my betta fish has got columnaris and not fin rot as i first thought...

Is that just the color of the inside of his mouth? Did you just notice this? Or has he had this for a while?

To help with the fin rot do a 75% water change daily.
How are you currently treating?

As said above how long ago did you notice the spot?

He may have bumped it. Just watch it and do the water changes as mentioned above for a week and see how it looks.

Thanks for everyones responses...i dont think it is the inside of his mouth...it definitely seems above his top lip...i noticed it when he started to get his ragged fins...which was about a month ago...i have currently been treating him with aquarium salt, water changes & cattapa leaves but i did panic the other day and added a Interpret disease safe as other products recommended to me i cant get in the UK & his fin rot didn't seem to be improving....does anyone think it could be columnaris & could this be an ulcer on his lip? Ive never seen an ulcer on a fish before so im not quite sure...but i think he would be a lot more unwell if it was this wouldnt he or died by now? He has got some brownish discolouration around his mouth & gills too.
I have also attached a photo of the fish when i first had him...is it normal for him to change colour so much? Please note he is not in this bowl any more...i have moved him to a 23l tank.

Really pretty betta.

So he is not currently in the small bowl?

So this is a new development. You didn’t notice this when you first bought him?

Thank you!

No i have moved him to a 23 litre tank now...he has been in there about a month...

Is it normal for them to change colour this much do you know?

And he definitely didn't have the red spot on his lip when i bought him...

Is he still in a bowl? Bettas need to be in 2.5 gallons bare minimum of water. They do much better in at least 5 gallons. He also needs a heater to keep temperature at 80F and a filter.

Sorry, missed your response above. Is the new tank heated and filtered?
